🙂Idioms are stable phrases or expressions that have a fixed meaning other than the literary meaning of the words that make up them.

 Идиомы - это устойчивые фразы или выражения, которые имеют фиксированное значение, отличное от литературного значения слов, входящих в их состав. 

Идиомы часто используются в повседневной речи и культурных контекстах. 

Идиомы знать не обязательно, но познавательно!

🙂As cool as cucumber - Спокойный как танк 

Explanation:

very calm, not nervous or emotional.

Example: 

He was as cool as cucumber when he took the exam.

🙂Bee's knees - Пуп земли 

Explanation:

the best, most attractive, talented person. 

Example:

He obviously think that he is bee's knees.

🙂Bimbo - смазливая девица

Explanation:

A young woman who is not very intelligent but is particularly attractive.

Example:

is certainly not a bimbo because she's very brainy and works as a scientist. 

🙂Blow hot and cold - семь пятниц на неделе 

Explanation:

to continually change one's mind about something/someone;

to be indecisive; 

to waver.

Example:

He blows hot and cold on the plan, so that I don't know wether he will eventually help us or not.

Explanation:

to take responsibility or blame for something. 

Example:

She suspected that she'd be left to carry the can for her boss's mistakes.

Explanation:

to have a friendly, informal talk, to chat in a relaxed way.

Example:

My friend and I sat up half the night just chewing the fat.

Explanation:

to hurt someone's feelings very deeply, 

to be extremely unkind or nasty.

Example:

I was cut to the quick by her harsh remarks.

Explanation:

to have a part in something; 

to be involved in numerous activities, often in a meddlesome way. 

Example:

He likes to have a finger in every pie in the class

🙂Eat humble pie - загладить/искупить свою вину

Explanation:

to be very submissive after regretting an action or words. 

🙂Drop a clanger - сморозить, ляпнуть, допустить бестактность 

Explanation:

to be guilty of an embarrassingly bad mistake, or discreet remark or action.

Example:

I dropped a clanger at the party when I mentioned Tom's wife - I didn't realized she left him.
